1980: First recital at Del Terzo's Recital Studio in Carnegie Hall.

When I was 16, I performed my first recital in Del Terzo studio Carnegie Hall. It was for family and friends. My grandfather was too ill to travel, but the following year I was booked to sing in the recital hall and my grandfather though very ill made it to the show. I was so nervous because my grandfather was a great singer and I wanted him to be proud of me. I still remember the day of his 75th birthday he was unable to walk without assistance due to a stroke that left him paralyzed on his side, but there was music and singing from some family musicians, and with a little help from me and my father, three generations stood at the microphone and sang. It wasn't too long before you knew who started this road of music in both my father and myself. My grandfather sang some beautiful Spanish songs that made us cry, and then sang a powerful number that made me stop and wonder in awe at the power in his voice. He was my first inspiration and I would love to have him here today to see where his influence has taken me. ~Daniel

2001 October 3 opening of Carnegie Hall's 111th season:

With the Berlin Philharmonic, tribute to 9-11. The evening began with a perfect gesture. Carnegie Hall invited Daniel Rodriguez, a police officer from Patrol Borough Manhattan South, to open the concert by singing a solo rendition of "God Bless America." Mr. Rodriguez received a hero's welcome when he appeared onstage. As it happens, he also had a bright, pleasant tenor voice that needed no microphone to carry well in the hall. ~Anthony Tommasini

"It was amazing to be back at Carnegie hall, a place that has always meant success to me as a singer. I am sure that the music world has many wonderful venues that represent "the next level" for a musician, but for me it has always been Carnegie. From the first time I walked into the building at 16 and sang in one of the studios, I felt as though I had begun a journey that would guide my entire life. I was right, and last night I returned to the place where I took a step in the direction that I travel today. Thank you to all who have shared parts of this journey, my wife, my children, my family and my friends." Daniel
